MAWHA was founded in 1996 and is a regional affiliate of the World History Association. It is a committed group of scholars, researchers and teachers at four-year colleges and universities, community colleges and secondary schools which is dedicated to the study and teaching of world history.

Its region includes New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland, but presenters and attendees have come from as far as California, Michigan, Massachusetts, and Virginia. Since proposals have also been received from India, Turkey, Namibia, Nigeria, Cameroon, Brazil and France, it is attaining a global reach.

Annual conferences have been held in October since 1996 and have been hosted by Brookdale Community College (NJ), College Misericordia (PA), Shippensburg University (PA), SUNY Fredonia, Ramapo College of New Jersey, East Stroudsburg Univ. (PA), and Drew University (NJ). MAWHA welcomes institutions within its region who wish to host the annual conference. The experienced leadership of the organization offers help in making this possible.

Featured speakers at our annual conferences have included Alfred Crosby, Michael Adas, Howard Spodek, Richard Bulliet, Kevin Reilly and other leaders of the world history movement; the organization is sufficiently financed to offer continued prominence in the future.

MAWHA emphasizes a collegial atmosphere which enables members to test new hypotheses, present new educational materials, develop new teaching techniques and share the best that world history represents. We pride ourselves on caring for the needs of individuals concerning accommodations, travel requirements and presentation times. Thanks to help from various publishers, we are able to provide an excellent educational experience at a very modest cost.

Dues are currently $10.00 per year. New members are always welcome.

MAWHA is a registered provider for New Jersey Continuing Education credit.
